Making your own kokedama has never been easier! With our SuperMoss Kokedama Kit, we’ve done the hard part for you by providing a ready-made moss ball and all the tools you need. It’s a fun, hands-on project that’s simple, convenient, and perfect for adding a natural touch to your space—no expertise needed!

What is Kokedama, anyway?

Kokedama (苔玉) literally translates to “moss ball” in Japanese. It’s a centuries-old tradition in Japanese gardening that wraps a plant’s roots in moss, letting it be displayed in a hanging sculpture or atop a pedestal. The result? A floating garden that adds charm and tranquility to any space.

Let’s dive into this step-by-step guide and get you hanging your kokedama in no time. 🌱

What You’ll Need:

  • SuperMoss Kokedama Kit
(Includes: 6″ Fresh Green Kokedama, Fuchsia Reindeer Moss and Spanish Moss, Orchid Potting Mix, Natural Twine, and Hanging Chain)
  • A plant of your choice (we love orchids, succulents, herbs, or vines!)
  • Water

Step 1: Start with the twine.

Grab your twine and tie one end securely to the metal rings on your Kokedama. This will help keep everything in place. Then, slowly wrap the remaining twine around your Kokedama Ball.

Step 2: Add some potting mix.

Pour the Orchid Potting Mix into the Kokedama about halfway full. This gives your plant the base it needs to root and thrive.

Step 3: Prep your plant.
Gently remove your plant from its original container. Shake off any loose soil from the root ball—this helps it settle into its new mossy home more easily.

Step 4: Nestle it in.
Place your plant into the Kokedama and fill in around the roots with the remaining Orchid Potting Mix. Pat it down gently but firmly.

Step 5: Decorate with moss.
Here comes the fun part! Use the Natural Spanish Moss and Fuchsia Reindeer moss to accent your Kokedama. Mix and match colors for a vibrant, textured look that shows off your style.

Step 6: Hang & hydrate.
Attach the hanging chain to your kokedama—and you’re ready to display it! When it’s time to water, kokedamas drain easily, so make sure to water outside or over a sink to keep things tidy.
