So far I love mine! I just wish I could find instructions on how to maintain it?

    Penny Worley

    • Hi Penny, we’re so happy you like the birdhouse! It won’t require any real maintenance, like all natural products the moss will shed as it dries and fade a bit in direct sunlight. To help mitigate this you can spritz every so often with distilled water and if the color fades over time you can add a little food coloring to the distilled water to refresh the look. The moss is dried and preserved, it’s no longer alive so it won’t require much upkeep. You’ll probably want to replace the unit after a couple years of use.

What’s the best way to plant plants in it?

    Kathryn Bean

    • Hi Kathryn, these birdhouses have a section in the back that serves as a basket for plants. The best way to plant in it would be to choose a soil that is suitable for the plants you are using. Then, fill the back of the birdhouse with the soil and secure the plants inside making sure the soil is tightly packed around the young plants. Then, water gently to settle the soil around the roots of the plants. Be sure to monitor the plants and soil moisture while the plants are becoming established. Soil in hanging baskets can dry out faster than soil in garden beds.

I just bought mine! It is the cutest birdhouse and planter that are together! I was thinking of planting mum’s in it, but the mum’s need to be in full sun and birdhouse will fade if to much sun, so I’m not sure as to what I am going to do. Any advice?

How to winterize for northern winters?

    Mary

    • Hi Mary, winterizing a natural moss birdhouse involves taking steps to protect it from harsh winter weather and ensuring that it remains a safe and welcoming place for birds. First, ensure your birdhouse does not become waterlogged. If you notice water accumulating, bring it inside and allow it to dry before putting it back outside. Protect from wind, position the birdhouse in a location that provides some protection from the wind. Throughout the winter, periodically check and clean the birdhouse. Remove any debris, old birdseed, or ice accumulation. If possible, position the birdhouse near natural shelter, such as trees or shrubs. This can provide additional protection from harsh weather elements.

I just bought the Maison patio model for my mom and hung it on her front porch and didn’t say anything to her. When she went to let her dog out and saw it she called me crying and said that was one of the most beautiful things she has ever seen. Thanks for helping me give my best friend and mother something she feels so good about.
